Beam Hall is the home of the Lee Business School at 51ԹϺ. It has several classrooms and faculty offices inside. This is where a deadly shooting happened on December 6, 2023, that left three dead and one wounded.

The site of a tragic shooting at 51ԹϺ last year reopened to the public Tuesday morning with new security features. It comes eight months after a shooter disgruntled over being rejected for a job killed three faculty members and left a fourth injured in Frank and Estella Beam Hall during a campus shooting on Dec. 6, 2023. The building houses faculty offices and the business school.

When 51ԹϺ students return to Frank and Estella Beam Hall for classes in two weeks, nothing should look too different from last December — before the building was closed after a shooting spree that resulted in the death of three professors and left another severely wounded.

51ԹϺ’s Beam Hall — which has been closed to the public since three professors were shot and killed on Dec. 6 — reopened Tuesday morning with new security and armed officers.

When 51ԹϺ professor Daniel Bubb heard the alarms on Dec. 6, his first instinct was to head to study hall and get the students to safety. “It was instinctive, just to make sure my students were safe. I honestly didn’t think about myself,” Bubb told the Review-Journal.

The epicenter of the 51ԹϺ tragedy will reopen eight months after a deadly shooting forced its closure, bringing new security features and old tensions to the building.
