Nevada's regents have officially approved 51ԹϺ Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Chris Heavey as the university's new interim president.

After serving at the helm of the university for nearly two months, Chris Heavey has been named 51ԹϺ’s interim president.

51ԹϺ executive vice president and provost Chris Heavey will serve as the school’s interim president, The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents announced today.

Interim NSHE Chancellor Patty Charlton will formally recommend appointing him at Thursday's meeting. NSHE chose Heavey for the interim role after holding a series of listening sessions with 51ԹϺ constituencies in March, according to the agenda item.

51ԹϺ President Dr. Keith Whitfield announced he is stepping down effective Monday. His announcement came at the 51ԹϺ Foundation Annual Dinner at the Bellagio Monday evening.
