Changes in Building Access
Residence Hall Access
The Residence Halls will close at the end of each spring and fall semester. All access will be removed and you will not be able to access your room and building after that time. Visit our Important Dates page for specific dates
If you have been approved to occupy the room after the check-out date, you do not need to vacate at that time. Please make sure to read your decision email for more information.
Dining Commons Access
Your meal plan will expire at the end of each spring and fall semester when the Dining Commons closes. Visit our Important Dates page for specific dates
Essential Departure Tasks
If you are a student who is leaving the residence halls and not returning, please complete the following tasks:
- Vacuum and clean your room and bathroom
- Return all furniture to its original position
- Remove all personal belongings
- Remove all trash
- Set the A/C unit on cool, low, and 75 degrees. Close the blinds (with slats open)
- Complete a Check Out form or you will be charged $100 for an improper check out
Departure Procedures for Fall
Residents Who Will Not Be Returning for the Spring Semester
- Submit a Contract Release Form that can be found in your .
- Before you leave, you must complete an express check out to sign that you have completed the essential departure tasks.
- Once you have completely moved out all your belongings and your side of the room is clean, sign the Express Check Out form and place it in the black boxes located on the first-floor lobby area of your complex.
- After submitting the Express Check Out form, you will no longer be able to access the complex or your room
- Your side of the room will be inspected to ensure that you have moved out properly. Any items left behind will be bagged and tagged for you to pick up or dispose of. Any damage on your side of the room and common areas that are not reported will be charged to your My51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ account and split evenly between all roommates.
Residents Who Will Be Returning for the Spring Semester
- Complete a Winter Stay Request Form if you will need to stay after the semester ends
- Take belongings you need with you over winter break
- All other belongings can remain
Departure Procedures for Spring
Option 1: Express Check Out
Note that if you select this option and leave before your roommate and/or suitemates, you could be responsible for any cleaning or damage charges. Please coordinate with your roommate and/or suitemates accordingly.
- Pick up an Express Check Out form from your complex front desk
- After you have removed all of your personal belongings and cleaned your room, place the Express Check Out form in the drop box located near the exit of your residence halls.
- You must complete a Check Out form or you will be charged $100 for an improper check out.
Option 2: Check Out With a Resident Assistant (RA)
If you prefer to check out with an RA, you must do so by contacting the RA-on-Duty number or visiting your complex front desk.
- Once you are completely moved out and ready to have your room inspected, go to your complex front desk to let them know you want to check out with an RA.
- The front desk will contact the RA to have them meet you.
- You must complete a Check Out form or you will be charged $100 for an improper check out.
Additional Information
Packages and Mail
Be sure to pick up all mail prior to moving out. If you are not living in the residence halls for summer session 1, any remaining mail or packages will be returned to the sender.
Parking and Loading Zones
Make sure you abide by all parking rules and regulations during move out to avoid a parking citation. You cannot park in any reserved or handicap spaces without the required parking permit and do you leave your car unattended. Additional parking and loading zone information will be sent closer to move out week.
Donation Boxes
Rebel Recycling will place donation boxes on each floor of the buildings. If you have any items you do not want anymore, please place them in or around the boxes for Rebel Recycling to pick up. Please do not place broken items or trash in these boxes.
Moving Carts and Dollies
Both are available for check out at each complex front desk. You will need to give an ID to check out each item. You may check out moving carts and/or dollies for only one hour at a time to give all residents an opportunity to use these items. Please do not ride inside of the carts or take them off university property. This is considered misuse of University items and you will be sent to the Office of Student Conduct for such behavior.
Late Stay Request
If you need to stay past the end of the semester, please fill out a Late Stay Request form that can be found either in your resident or by visiting the Housing Front Desk.
Summer Housing
If you are interested in living on campus during the summer, please complete the Summer Housing Application through the .
