Staying Safe FAQs

What can I do to stay safe at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and in Las Vegas?

  • Do reach out to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Global with any questions or concerns.
  • Do carry your original documents with you at all times.
  • Do everything you need to do to stay in status.
  • Do ensure that your contact information, especially email and phone number, is up to date in the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ system and with International Student & Scholar Compliance (ISSC) so that we can contact you as quickly as possible.
  • Do check your personal and 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ email accounts for any updates from ISSC and 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.
  • Do check in with your friends and enjoy your life.
  • Do take advantage of on-campus resources, such as Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS).

What should I avoid doing?

  • Do not break any U.S. laws, even small ones, for example:
    • Speeding or parking tickets
    • Underage drinking or consumption of restricted substances
    • Public consumption of alcohol, cannabis, or other restricted substances
  • Do not listen to rumors, for example:
    • Your I-94 will not show if your SEVIS record has been terminated.
    • The federal agency that issues the I-94 (Customs and Border Protection) is a different federal agency from the one that oversees the I-20s. There is a third agency that oversees Visas. These 3 agencies don’t usually coordinate with each other.
  • The only way to know if your F-1/J-1 SEVIS record has been terminated is if a DSO/international advisor from ISSC tells you.
