Amy Tureen, head of the Library Liaison Program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (51ԹϺ), and Amanda Melilli, head of the Teacher Development and Resources Library at 51ԹϺ, have both been there and shared some startling statistics:
33% of Americans report feelings of “extreme stress.”
60-90% of doctor visits are related to “stress-related complaints.”
Re-documenting history one page and one photograph at a time: That's what 51ԹϺ's Special Collections and Archives Division plans to do. The team is in the middle of a large project to digitize old newspapers from across the country.
“It has been happening for some time, digitization,” Thomas Padilla, a digital research services librarian at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, who studies how institutions can improve access for computational research, said.

Four years ago, 51ԹϺ embarked on a project to document the Jewish history of Southern Nevada.
When the remains of 13 Chinese residents were unearthed in Carlin and sent off for archaeological study, no one realized it would be more than 20 years before they were seen again.
You don’t have to be a first responder to participate in 51ԹϺ Libraries’ “Remembering 1 October” oral history project, although it’s fine if you are. “We want to show how Las Vegas [rallied] together to support each other,” says Claytee D. White, director of 51ԹϺ’s Oral History Research Center.
Charlotte Hill was so active in so many causes, so giving to so many organizations — maintaining a high energy level no matter how thin she spread herself — that even her closest friends could not understand how she was able to do all that she accomplished.
