A local duo featuring violin and cello debuted with a live performance at an east Las Vegas community center on Sunday.

As students in the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Jazz Ensemble settled into their practice, their temporary stage, a classroom-studio on the second floor of the Ham Fine Arts building, was replete with stiff music stands and plastic chairs.

Jazz at Lincoln Center, which runs one of the world’s largest jazz education program networks, has tapped 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ to compete in the Jack Rudin Jazz Championship on January 10-11 in New York City. Only nine other colleges were chosen to participate.
