As Nevada voters head to the polls, one key ballot question has stirred contrasting opinions: Question 1, which proposes removing the Board of Regents from the state constitution, granting the legislature more oversight.

Hundreds of millions of dollars poured into the U.S. federal races this election cycle ensures that voters know who’s at the top of the ticket and why they are choosing them. Beyond that top race on the ballot, however, things get murkier.

More than 1 million Nevadans — just over half the state’s total registered voters — have already cast their vote in the 2024 election after early voting wrapped up Friday night. Early voting turnout suggests the race will be close, but higher than usual Republican participation means Democrats must play catch-up on getting out the vote, a reversal of previous election cycles.

The recovery is slow, Nevada is still suffering from the effects of the Covid pandemic, which brought tourism to a standstill. The economy is the main topic in the election campaign. The OON spoke to David Damore, a renowned political scientist at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, about the close race in the swing state of Nevada.

More than 244 million citizens are eligible to vote in the November 5 elections in the fifty American states. In 43 of them, the race is practically decided - according to polls, either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party has at least a 60% chance of claiming victory.
