51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Student Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) strives to facilitate and maintain the holistic well-being of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students through three essential roles:
- Providing clinical services
- Providing education and outreach programing to the campus community
- Responding to crises that impact the campus community
To best meet the needs of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ student population, CAPS utilizes a Stepped Care Model in order to utilize resources most effectively. All students are welcome to schedule an initial consultation to discuss concerns with a clinician who will recommend the most effective yet least-resource intensive intervention first. Recommendations draw from CAPS wide range of services including:
- Workshop and educational seminars
- Online or application-based self-guided resources
- Group therapy
- Short-term individual or couples therapy
- Case management and community referrals
Treatment recommendations are individualized based on various factors and may change during the course of treatment based on ongoing assessment or new information.
If you are interested in CAPS services, please call CAPS at 702-895-3627 to schedule an initial consultation appointment.
Available Services
CAPS clinicians may use a variety of mental health screeners and assessments to more fully understand students’ presenting concerns. Some of these psychological assessments may be administered for a fee (e.g., EDI-3, MCMI-IV, MMPI). Please note that CAPS does not provide neuropsychological testing for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder or learning disabilities.
Student Wellness Center staff assists students preferring or needing services beyond what Student Wellness can provide. A provider and/or care manager will work to provide students appropriate information and resources that will support them during academic, personal, financial, and emergency situations. Please contact CAPS at 702-895-3627 to schedule an appointment to discuss resources.
CAPS offers couples counseling within a brief therapy model. Couples counseling is beneficial for learning how to effectively manage conflict, improve communication skills, and increase awareness of needs within the relationship. In order to be eligible for couples counseling at least one member of the couple is required to be a currently enrolled 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ student.
For life-threatening emergencies, please immediately call 9-1-1 or go directly to the nearest emergency room.
CAPS offers crisis services for students who may be experiencing urgent concerns. Students can call or walk into CAPS for crisis services during business hours, and meet with a crisis counselor. Business hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
If a student is experiencing an urgent concern outside of CAPS hours, they may choose to utilize the additional crisis resources provided on our Crisis Services page.&n
