
Matt Stewart, Ph.D.

Matt Stewart joined the School of Integrated Health Sciences in 2024. He earned his Ph.D. in movement science from the University of Michigan ('23). Prior to his time at UM, he earned his master of science degree in kinesiology from Iowa State University ('18) and his bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Simpson College ('16). Since arriving at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, Stewart has taught a variety of courses for the undergraduate programs in SIHS, including statistics. As an investigator, he is interested in understanding how built and social environments (BSEs) influence physical activity patterns and subsequently various physiological and psychological outcomes, heavily emphasizing the use of wearable devices and smartphone applications as measurement tools. He is first author on two scientific articles (JMIR mHealth and uHealth, Journal of Physical Activity and Health), and maintains a research presence as a reviewer and statistician on grants.
