Biography

Dr. Linh Nguyen, Ph.D., MPH, joined University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine in 2017 where she is responsible for teaching microbiology and immunology in the predoctoral dental curriculum, and plays an active role in curriculum development and interdisciplinary instruction.

Prior to her academic appointment, Dr. Nguyen served for nearly a decade as an infectious disease epidemiologist at the Southern Nevada Health District in Las Vegas. Her work focused on the investigation and prevention of communicable disease outbreaks, microbial studies of public health significance, and laboratory surveillance for emerging pathogens. These experiences continue to inform her research and teaching, which emphasize the intersection of microbiology, epidemiology, and oral health.

Dr. Nguyen incorporates public health methodologies—such as biostatistics, bioinformatics, and epidemiologic modeling—to address complex research questions in oral and systemic health. Her interdisciplinary approach has contributed to numerous projects that integrate public health practices into dental education. In the classroom, Dr. Nguyen often includes teaching strategies such as gamified learning platforms to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Dr. Nguyen holds a Master of Public Health in Community Health Education from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in microbiology from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. She is a prolific scholar with more than 280 peer-reviewed publications and public health reports. Her current research and teaching initiatives emphasize the vital connection between oral health and population health, with a focus on advancing evidence-based, community-centered approaches to care.
