The Basic Needs Program is seeking additional staff volunteers for our upcoming Take What You Need event, scheduled for March 4 in Student Union Ballroom C.
This event aims to connect 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students with daily necessity items (food, hygiene, clothing, school supplies, and more) in an effort to address basic needs insecurity. Since the Spring semester started, we have worked with nearly 400 students, with nearly 50% of assessment respondents indicating food insecurity, nearly 20% indicating housing insecurity, and 72% indicating barriers to accessing daily necessities, transportation, technology, course materials, and childcare.
It is a heavy lift to bring our inventory of basic need items from our office storage space to the event room and set the room up as a shoppable space for students. We will need as many hands as we can get from 8AM-10AM for set up, and some additional support with room management and check in during the day.
You can follow to sign up for a volunteer shift.
Volunteer signups for April and May are also available; volunteers will receive email updates and a calendar invite as each event gets closer.
