The world's most popular jazz musician and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer - Wynton Marsalis - returns to Las Vegas for an extraordinary evening with the celebrated Manhattan big band, The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, at 8 p.m. on Feb. 19 as part of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's New York Stage & Beyond Series.
Marsalis is an internationally acclaimed musician, composer, bandleader, educator and a leading advocate of American culture. He is the first jazz artist to perform and compose across the full jazz spectrum, from its New Orleans roots to bebop to modern jazz. By creating and performing an expansive range of brilliant new music for quartets to big bands, chamber music ensembles to symphony orchestras, tap dance to ballet, Marsalis has expanded the vocabulary for jazz and created a vital body of work that places him among the world's finest musicians and composers.
Hailed as "an extraordinarily versatile orchestra" by The Los Angeles Times, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is composed of 15 of jazz music's leading soloists under the leadership of musical director Marsalis. Drawing from an extensive repertoire that includes original compositions by Marsalis, Ted Nash, and other members of the orchestra, as well as the masterworks of Ellington, Mingus, Coltrane, and other great jazz composers, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis concerts are internationally critically-acclaimed. Tickets to Wynton Marsalis & the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra are $45, $60, and $90 and can be purchased at the Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting pac.unlv.edu. Student rush tickets are $13 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $1.25 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets.
