A workshop concerning on-line commerce and what this new development means for businesses will be the topic of a seminar Thursday (May 18).
"E-Commerce Is Changing the Way Business Is Done Locally and Globally! Are You Ready?" will take place 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room A-110 of the Classroom Building Complex on the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ campus. A pre-workshop presentation on myths in E-commerce will take place in the same location at 7:30 a.m.
The cost of the event is $45 for members of the Southern Nevada International Business Council and $80 for non-members. To register, call 734-7575, send a fax to 734-7633, or send an E-mail to NSBDC@nevada.edu.
Successful Las Vegas practitioners of E-business and 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ experts will provide insights on a host of topics, including:
-- Websites and the Internet
-- Successful cases in the Las Vegas area
-- E-Commerce fundamentals for business-to-business and business-to-consumer firms
-- How to deliver value to the customer
-- Obstacles to globalization of E-business
"E-commerce technology offers a way for business to expand globally," said David McArthur, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ assistant professor of management, one of the panel speakers.
"It offers a way to avoid some of the high capital start-up costs of developing an international presence," he said, adding that E-commerce can benefit firms of all sizes, not just those operating at million-dollar sales levels. "Attendees will hear a blend of successful case examples and clear-headed advice on why some firms are successful in this change and why others aren't."
Professors from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Business College joining McArthur at the event will be Jack Schibrowsky, associate professor and chair of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's marketing department; James Cross, professor of marketing; Reza Torkzadeh, professor of management and interim chair of the management department; and Gurpreet Dhillon, assistant professor of management.
Several practitioners of E-commerce will be joining the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ experts on the panel. Included will be the Nanoshka Johnson, chief executive officer of Nosh Productions, a Website development firm; Josh Grantz, chief executive officer of I.SWAG.COM, an Internet corporate sourcing company; and Lois Castle, vice president of Creative Development for Westwood Studios.
The event is sponsored by the Southern Nevada International Business Council, the Nevada Small Business Development Center at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ, the Las Vegas Chambers of Commerce, the Nevada Development Authority, and the Nevada Commission on Economic Development.
