More than 2,000 students and professors will be recognized for their outstanding academic achievements during the annual 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Honors Convocation on April 13.
The event, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. The keynote address will be delivered by Rainier Spencer, assistant professor of anthropology.
Also to be honored at the event are three Southern Nevadans who will receive the University Distinguished Service Award. They are:
-- Joseph P. Delaney, the Las Vegas Sun entertainment columnist who has served as a part-time 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ instructor for 26 years.
-- Leonard "Pat" Goodall, former 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ president and current professor of public administration, who is being honored for his years of service to the university. He will retire in June.
-- Jack Jefferson, who since 1985 has spent countless hours tutoring 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students in chemistry and math.
"The Honors Convocation always is a special time for those of us at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ as we pay tribute to our best and brightest," said 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ President Carol C. Harter. "We encourage members of the Southern Nevada community to attend so they can learn more about the achievements of students and faculty at their university."
