The first ever Family Weekend '98, an event for visiting families of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students as well as families of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ faculty and staff, will feature three days of academic, athletic, and social activities on campus Oct. 2-4.
"This is a way to help students' families become more familiar with the campus," said Phil Burns, program coordinator for 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ's Campus Community Development. "We hope to establish Family Weekend as a tradition on the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ campus as many other campuses have done."
Activities on Oct. 2 include a 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ open house, academic department receptions, a family welcome barbecue, and a movie night featuring "Space Jam."
On Oct. 3 events will include a 5K walk for the American Heart Association, the fourth annual Friendship Games, and the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ vs. UNR football game, along with a pre-game tailgate and post-game party. At the 5K walk, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ will field a team of more than two dozen walkers. Persons interested in participating in the walk should call 367-1366.
On Sunday a family pancake breakfast is planned. There will be a small charge for the barbecue, football game, and pancake breakfast.
