To keep the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ campus secure during the three-day New Year's weekend, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ officials have decided to shut down the campus from Dec. 31 through Jan. 2.
That means all entrances will be blocked and all buildings will be locked throughout the weekend. The campus will re-open on Jan. 3.
The decision was made to minimize the potential for problems during the holiday weekend. Concerns had been raised that if the number of tourists in town exceeds the number of hotel rooms, those visitors to the Strip who do not have rooms might find 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ parking lots and green spaces inviting places to camp. The potential for vandalism and liability issues led to the decision to close the campus. The campus was scheduled to be closed for business on Friday, Dec. 31, for the New Year's holiday, and no other events were planned for the weekend.
The recommendation to close the campus was made by a 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ committee and approved by the President's Cabinet.
