LAS VEGAS--January 28, 2009-- As 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students, soon-to-be graduates and alumni search for jobs and internships in uncertain economic times, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Career Services provides a valuable link to find internships and employment opportunities in Nevada and across the country.
Counselors help 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ job seekers outline career goals, build resumes and prepare for job interviews. The center is equipped with a computer lab, a career resource library and a virtual computer-based station to help students practice interview techniques.
Current students and alumni can search for jobs and internships through the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ CareerLink Web site. Eileen McGarry, director of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Career Services, advises students to pursue internships early in their academic career as employers are more likely to hire graduates who obtained experience while in college. Alumni can utilize CareerLink up to three months after graduation. Alumni association members have lifelong access to the Web site.
"In addition to using computer based programs to find employment, job seekers should be proactive by attending networking events and career fairs because the one-on-one face time with potential employers is really the key to getting your foot in the door," said Eileen McGarry, director of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Career Services. "Despite the economic downturn, employers are looking to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ to find a talented and educated workforce."
