The importance of writing autobiographical sketches -- both as a means of reviewing one's life and as a means of leaving a keepsake for relatives -- will be the subject of a presentation at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ on Nov. 10.
Charles Kempthorne, a leader in the personal autobiography movement and editor of "Life Story Magazine," will speak at 7:30 p.m. in Frank and Estella Beam Hall, Room 241, on the topic, "The Importance of Autobiography." Part of the University Forum lecture series, Kempthorne's talk will be open to the public free of charge.
Kempthorne considers it one of his missions in life to help people, especially older people, record the details of their lives. For the writer, the autobiography provides an opportunity for seeing patterns in one's life. For the reader, such writings provide an opportunity for remembering, appreciating, and learning.
The University Forum lecture series is sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts. Kempthorne's presentation is being underwritten by the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ provost's office.
