The university has appointed six fellows to the second class of the Leadership Development Academy.
Executive Vice President and Provost John Valery White launched the academy last year to nurture future campus administrators. The mentorship program also seeks to increase the representation of women and minority faculty in leadership positions.
"Universities thrive because of leadership grown from within its ranks," White said. "The shared governance model of managing higher education institutions has endured for centuries precisely because it is an efficient and effective way to run universities. Ours are organizations where the expertise in any field exists among the faculty researching and teaching in that area, but the model of shared governance thrives only when there are effective and knowledgeable leaders throughout the ranks."
The 2014-15 Leadership Development Academy fellows are:
Emmanuel Ayim
Counselor
Center for Academic Enrichment & Outreach
He received his Ph.D. in Sports Education Leadership from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in 2009. He currently serves on the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Faculty Senate as a representative for administrative faculty and teaches first and second seminar courses in the College of Education.
Arthur Baragar
Professor
Mathematical Sciences Department
His research focuses on number theory and arithmetic geometry. He studies the structure of solutions to equations over the number fields (e.g., the rationals) and how some of these properties can be characterized by the behavior of the equations over the complex numbers.
Richard Boland
Research and grants coordinator
Lee Business School's Center for Business and Economic Research
He received his bachelor's degree in business administration from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in 2007. A member of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe, he previously worked for the tribe and for the National Park Service.
Anne Hodge
Director of Development
College of Fine Arts
The youngest of 10 children of Irish immigrants, she joined 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in 2008 after starting her fundraising career at the University of Texas at Austin. She is currently pursuing a master's degree at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.
Joanna Jezierska
Director of Multicultural Programs
Engineering, Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, Community Health Sciences, and Nursing
Before coming to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in 2013, she worked at the College of Southern Nevada. She is a native of Warsaw Poland and holds a PhD. in educational leadership from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.
Nikkole McCartin
Director of the executive MBA program
Lee Business School
She earned both a bachelor's and EMBA degrees from 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and is an advisory board member for West Career and Technical Academy. She previously worked for The Howard Hughes Corporation.
