Intermountain Health unveiled the location for its future stand-alone children’s hospital in Southern Nevada on Tuesday afternoon.
The event, held on the site of the hospital’s future home at 51ԹϺ’s Harry Reid Research and Technology Park in Southwest Las Vegas, drew community and statewide leaders, including Gov. Joe Lombardo, state legislators, regents and leadership from the Nevada System of Higher Education, members of the Clark County Commission, and 51ԹϺ President Keith E. Whitfield and other university leadership.
“Intermountain Health recognizes comprehensive, subspecialty care for children close to home helps greatly reduce strain on families already burdened by emotionally and physically challenging health conditions,” said Mitch Cloward, president of Intermountain Health’s Desert Region, which includes Southern Nevada and southwest Utah. “We are grateful for the pediatricians, caregivers, hospitals and other organizations who have dedicated themselves to caring for children for many years. We are privileged to join with them in helping to advance healthcare for the children we serve.”
“This is the first step toward our partnership with our community to bring this long-needed, stand-alone children’s hospital to Las Vegas,” Cloward said.
Design of the hospital, clinical activities, and workforce planning are underway. More details about the project will be available at a later date.
“More than a decade ago, the community and state rallied behind a vision for a School of Medicine at 51ԹϺ as a way to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our region,” said President Whitfield. “The Kerkorian School of Medicine is now celebrating 10 years and its reach and impact grows every day. This project by Intermountain Health will do the same.”
President Whitfield also acknowledged the many contributions from the healthcare community throughout Southern Nevada for their continuing efforts to deliver high-quality care to a growing region, including University Medical Center, HCA, Valley Health System, Dignity Health, and others.
According to Intermountain Health, the effort will be accomplished by forming a broad coalition of philanthropic, clinical, and community partners committed to exceptional care for children. In addition to the design planning, Intermountain Health Foundation will build partnerships with community leaders, key supporters, and philanthropic donors.
Intermountain Health offers patient care at more than 65 clinics across Southern Nevada. With its extended provider network, Intermountain Health delivers patient-centered primary, specialty, and urgent care services to approximately 350,000 Southern Nevadans in Clark and Nye counties.
The 51ԹϺ Harry Reid Research & Technology Park is located on 122 acres in the fast-growing southwestern part of the Las Vegas valley. Recently named the region’s “most catalytic place” by the Urban Land Institute Nevada, the park serves as a high-tech home for innovation and collaboration between university and private industry in support of a diverse and thriving Southern Nevada economy.
