Micajah Daniels (Public Health) is the first recipient of the Audre Lorde Student Leadership Award, which was given out at the first Inaugural Black Carpet, the main event for Black History Month. This event was hosted by student diversity and social justice to celebrate Black Excellence, Black Love, and Black Joy. Audre Lorde was a black writer, intersectional feminist, womxnist, librarian, and civil rights activist. The award named in Lorde's honor is meant to recognize a student leader at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ who has a strong commitment to on-campus advocacy with an intersectional approach. Daniels, a senior minoring in sociology, also is a McNair Scholar. The McNair Scholars program is a federally funded program designed to encourage and prepare students to successfully initiate and execute doctoral research.
