Lung-Chang Chien and formal doctoral student Leigh Ann Richardson (both Epidemiology and Biostatistics) co-authored “,” which published in the journal Science of the Total Environment. The study conducted a spatiotemporal analysis to assess the association between precipitation and gastrointestinal illness-related hospital admissions in four major cities in Texas and found that gastrointestinal illness-related hospitalizations increased over 2 weeks following precipitation events. Differences were also observed across study locations. The study especially found that Houston residents and children aged 6 and under were the most vulnerable population.
