David R. Gruber (Communication Studies) published a book chapter titled "Material Forces in the Brain Sciences" in the "Routledge Handbook of Rhetoric and Power" edited by Nathan Crick.
The chapter initially reviews the scholarly literature sitting at the intersection of the neurosciences and rhetorical studies and argues that three sub-areas have emerged in the past 10 years, most focused on cultural criticism and textual critiques of scientific interpretations. The author then argues for more holistic interdisciplinary methodologies that do a better job of engaging neuroscientists and give greater attention to the situated environmental constraints that neuroscientists know about and must work around.
