First-year radiochemistry Ph.D. student Colette Towles (Chemistry) was awarded a summer internship at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) and was highlighted in a published by SRNL. The working group at SRNL where Towles interned endeavors to determine the absorption properties of low activity radioactive waste using engineered cellular magmatics (ECMs). Her advisor, Art Gelis (Chemistry) acknowledges the internship has given her a head start on the hands on laboratory experience needed for her radiochemistry Ph.D. degree. Towles is being supported this fall by the (CNF), a $1.5M subcontract from the National Nuclear Security Agency through the University of Florida.
