Brittani Sterling (Libraries) completed an invited presentation entitled, We need to talk: Engaging community conversations that expand your library’s footprint in an attention economy that never sleeps, at the Libraries in the Digital Age conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Libraries and Information Institutions in the Digital Age (LIDA) is a biennial conference held in Dubrovnik, Croatia hosted in collaboration by the University of Osijek, the University of Zadar, and Rutgers University.
The 2025 LIDA conference addressed the changing and challenging environment for libraries and information systems and services within the theme -- Libraries in Tumultuous Times -- which addressed the shifting trust in the traditional reverence for libraries as authoritative spaces in an increasingly technocratic and complex information landscape where the 24/7 news cycle and influencer personalities often reach people before evidence or fact based information is sought. This conference theme invited participants to reflect on these disruptions, opportunities, and innovations, and to consider strategies for weathering the storms of uncertainty, steering bravely into uncharted waters and plotting a course to brighter futures.
