Description

Introduction to critical thinking with an emphasis on analytics skills, technologies, applications, and practices to leverage the organizations' internal and external information assets for making business decisions in data-rich organizations. Topics include online analytics, interactive reporting, ethical challenges, and business performance management, focusing on advanced pivot tables, Tableau, and SQL.

Apart from the textbooks, which can be bought from the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ bookstore or from the book publishers? websites or from any other source, this class requires the use of a Windows PC desktop/laptop and Internet connection for successfully completing it. Note that you can use a Mac desktop or MacBook laptop in this class but CANNOT complete Excel assignments in this class using Excel 365 for Mac on a Mac desktop or MacBook laptop. You will have to use Excel 365 for Windows, either on a Windows PC desktop/laptop or using a Mac desktop or MacBook laptop to connect to a Windows desktop in the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Remote Computer Labs for which instructions are provided in the class syllabus and by 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ OIT. The class will also require the installation of different business analytics software tools, which are available for free to students, on your computer. The class will also require a webcam and a microphone for meetings with the professor or the class TA. The webcam and microphone may be built into your computer or may be an external camera and microphone. The class may also use the LockDown Browser with or without LockDown Monitor for online quizzes/exams. While there is no cost to you to use the LockDown software, if Monitor is used, then a webcam will be required. Chromebooks are not compatible for this class.
Microsoft Excel and Tableau software will be used for hands-on work on this course. Both these software tools are available free of charge but will require the use of a Windows computer or a Mac computer that can run the Windows OS using an emulator such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion. The course will require the purchase of two textbooks information about which is available in the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Bookstore.
In addition to the materials listed on the bookstore webpage, this course requires a Mac or PC computer, and Internet connection for successfully completing this class. The course may also use the LockDown Browser with Monitor for online exams. Chromebooks are not compatible for this class.
