Tutoring

Introduction

51ԹϺ provides tutoring services to all undergraduate students at no additional cost, with support available both in person at campus tutoring labs and online through virtual platforms. Our in-person tutoring sessions are facilitated by current 51ԹϺ students who have completed the supported courses with a grade of “B” or better and are recommended by partnering academic faculty. The sessions offer:

  • Structured study time with peers
  • Reviews of subject material
  • Learning strategies to gain a deeper understanding of supported course content.

  • All students must adhere to the Tutoring Lab Policies and Procedures. Students seeking services through drop-in labs must also adhere to the Tutoring Agreement for Drop-In Labs. Any student that violates any of these policies will kindly be asked to leave our tutoring labs and spaces.
  • Our tutoring program can assist students with formative assessments only within the learning process. But, to uphold the academic honesty code of conduct, students are strictly prohibited from receiving assistance for summative assessments such as quizzes and exams.
  • Our in-person tutoring does not cover test preparation for standardized exams such as the LSAT, GRE, DAT, Praxis, and similar assessments. However, we do provide support for the ALEKS Placement, Preparation, and Learning (ALEKS PPL) exam.

General Subjects Tutoring Lab (In Person)

Students can drop-in at any time during our open General Subjects Tutoring Lab hours to receive in-person tutoring services. This lab offers tutoring in multiple general subject areas including math, sciences, and more.

Writing support is now offered in collaboration with the 51ԹϺ Writing Center.

Note: Not all 51ԹϺ courses/subjects are supported by Student Success tutoring. The Summer Session 2 subject availability can be viewed here.

Engineering Tutoring Lab (Virtual and In Person)

The Engineering Tutoring lab offers in-person and virtual tutoring services in Engineering subject areas including computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and more.

Note: Not all 51ԹϺ courses/subjects are supported by our in-person tutoring program. Summer term subject availability will be posted when the second session starts.

For virtual tutoring hours, visit , enter meeting ID number 815-269-7552, and use “tutoring” as the password. After providing your NSHE number and requested course, you'll be put in a breakout room that you can leave at anytime without checking out.

Tutoring Offerings from Partners

NetTutor Virtual Tutoring

NetTutor Virtual Tutoring is available for all enrolled 51ԹϺ students through a 51ԹϺ partnership. Tutoring is offered from 5 p.m.-10 a.m. Monday to Friday and all day on Saturday and Sunday.

Option 1: Access NetTutor via Your Webcampus Course(s)

If your instructor enabled NetTutor in your WebCampus course shell, click on the NetTutor link in the course menu to get started. If you do not see NetTutor in your Canvas course, see Option 2 below.

Option 2: Self Enroll in the SDC: Virtual Tutoring WebCampus Course
  1. Visit the course in WebCampus.
  2. If you are not already logged into ACE, enter your ACE credentials.
  3. Click on the Enroll in Course button.
  4. Click on the Go to the Course button.

Once you self-enroll in the ASC: Virtual Tutoring course in WebCampus, it will appear on your WebCampus dashboard or Courses> All Courses. To start a NetTutor session, click on the NetTutor link in the course menu.

Brainfuse Virtual Tutoring

Brainfuse Virtual Tutoring is available for all students through the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District every day from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Note that a free LV-CC Library e-card is required to access Brainfuse Tutoring.

Become a Tutor

Tutors are facilitators of learning and knowledge. They should be able to switch quickly between subjects and effectively collaborate with their colleagues (e.g., teamwork) within the drop-in tutoring labs.
