We are reaching out to provide an update on the issue of U.S. visa revocations and SEVIS terminations. In total, 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ has had 7 students and employees on OPT who have been affected. We’re pleased to report that there have been no new terminations in the past 7 days, and we remain hopeful that this trend will continue. There have been a number of lawsuits filed across the United States, and we are working with the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and the state of Nevada to advocate for our international students and scholars.
Please rest assured that our team in International Student & Scholar Compliance (ISSC) continues to check SEVIS multiple times a day, including on weekends, to determine whether any additional 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ students have had their SEVIS records terminated by the Department of Homeland Security. There is no way for you to check the status of your SEVIS record; only a P/DSO can access SEVIS. The 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ international students and scholars who have been impacted by visa revocations and SEVIS terminations so far have not been directly notified by the U.S. government, but we are personally contacting them as soon as we identify a new case to share the news and provide comprehensive support.
As we approach the end of the spring 2025 semester, it’s important that you remain calm and continue to focus on your studies. 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ has a comprehensive process in place to help any affected students or scholars through this situation. International students, faculty, and staff are highly valued members of our community, and we care deeply about your well-being. You belong here, and we are here to support you.
As a reminder, here are some precautionary measures that we recommend you follow:
- Reconsider international travel. If you must leave the U.S., be prepared for additional delays, increased government review, and the possibility of delay or denial at both the U.S. Consulate or Embassy (if applying for a new visa) or at the Port of Entry when applying to enter the U.S.
- Carry your original immigration documents with you at all times, including here in Las Vegas and during any U.S. travel.
- For international students (F-1 or J-1):
- Valid passport
- Most recent F-1/J-1 student visa, even if expired (Canadians are exempt)
- Most recent I-20 or DS-2019
- Most recent DS-7002 (J-1 student interns only)
- Most recent
- Employment Authorization Document (EAD), if on OPT/STEM OPT
- For international students (F-1 or J-1):
- Keep photos of these documents accessible on your cell phone, with printed copies stored at your residence as an added precaution.
- Memorize important phone numbers and email addresses, as you may not have access to your cell phone or other digital devices in an emergency situation.
- We are unable to provide legal advice, but you may want to contact an immigration attorney for support. The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has a . You may also reach out to the to see if they can help you identify an attorney to assist you.
