University Police Department (UPD) and Risk Management & Safety (RMS) are asking for the campus community’s help in preventing golf cart thefts.

In recent weeks, the campus has experienced an increase in golf cart thefts. Securing and properly maintaining these vehicles should be a top priority for all cart users.

Golf carts are often essential to campus operations, serving a wide range of needs, from maintenance and facilities support to event coordination and departmental activities. To help prevent further incidents, we encourage all departments to adopt the following preventative measures:

What you can do:

  • Keep carts clean and in good working order.
  • Park in designated parking areas whenever possible. If unavailable, park in visible, well-traveled areas.
  • Always lock the cart when not in use.
  • Install and use an anti-theft device, e.g., EZ-Go pedal lock, steering wheel lock, cable lock, boot, hidden kill switch, and/or unique aftermarket ignition key
  • Always remove keys when the cart is not in use. NEVER leave them in the ignition.
  • Use a check-in/out sheet to keep track of cart use.
  • Perform routine checks on seldom-used carts to ensure they are in working condition and stored in their designated locations.

If a golf cart goes missing, report it promptly by calling University Police at 702-895-3668 or submitting a report online through the University Police Department. The loss must also be reported to Risk Management & Safety for property control tracking and to file an insurance claim for the missing cart, if applicable (there is a $5,000 deductible for cart insurance claims).

Let’s work together to keep our wheels and our operations moving forward safely!
