Introduction

Itzel Martinez is a first-generation college student, born and raised in Las Vegas. She speaks both Spanish and English, but I would love to learn another language one day. She loves exploring the great outdoors whether it’s skiing in the winter or hiking in the summer. She is also into health and wellness. In her free time, she enjoys working out, reading self-help books, indulging in sweet treats, and watching her favorite comfort shows (Suits or Grey's Anatomy).

Itzel is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Marketing. She has always enjoyed marketing because of the creativity and psychological components that go into it. Last semester, she interned with Refined Hospitality, where she gained valuable insights into the hospitality and marketing industry. Her biggest inspiration is her mom, a current small business owner, who has shown her the power of hard work and perseverance.

Looking ahead, what exciting plans do you have for your future—whether in marketing, your personal life, or academics?

“Looking ahead, I’m excited about the future and all the goals I’m working toward as I continue to navigate life. One of my biggest aspirations is to achieve personal and professional financial success. As a first-generation student, I’ve witnessed the sacrifices my parents made to come to this country, and I hope to one day give back to them in a meaningful way. I do not have everything figured out right now and that’s okay.

One of my long-term dreams down the road is to own a small business—one that fosters a positive environment and helps people feel better, whether that’s through a product or service. I hope to maintain a healthy work-life balance and continue to work in marketing, especially in the digital space hopefully. Academically, I’m on track to graduate with my bachelor’s degree and am considering graduate school or a master’s degree in the future.

I also have some exciting personal goals. I love fitness and wellness! I’d love to earn a true fitness certification one day and eventually run a half marathon. I truly believe in trying everything life has to offer—“You never know unless you try”.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to students looking to create a standout personal brand?

If you’re trying to build a standout personal brand, don’t fear anything but fear itself. Your mindset is your biggest limitation, and you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Vision boards and writing down your goals can make a huge difference. It’s okay if your goals change over time—having a vision helps get you get one step closer to your goals! Always put yourself out there do not hold yourself back from experiences.

Reflecting on your time at 51ԹϺ, what experiences have made the biggest impact on you so far?

Reflecting on my time at 51ԹϺ, joining student organizations has had the biggest impact on me. Finding a sense of community and belonging was incredibly important for me. Being part of these clubs—and serving on their executive boards—helped me grow, connect, and gain real experience. I served as the Vice President of Digital Marketing for AMA (2023–2024), Vice President of Communications for 2024–2025, and Co for Marketing for Girl Gains. Joining Girl Gains has been so empowering; I’ve met amazing women who are passionate about fitness and wellness! Joining the American Marketing Association has given me a sense of family during difficult times. It’s been an incredible experience working alongside so many talented individuals and growing both personally and professionally.

Which marketing course has truly stood out to you, and what made it so memorable?

One course that has made a significant impact on me is Digital Marketing (MKT 380) with Professor Brandie Feuer (currently taking it this semester). She’s incredibly knowledgeable and kind, and it’s truly been a gift to learn from her. I also want to recognize Professor Taqi, whose assignments have pushed me outside of my comfort zone and taught me valuable speaking skills. I’ve had so many incredible professors and classes at 51ԹϺ who have shaped my journey and left a lasting impact.

In your opinion, what is one key strength of the Marketing department here at 51ԹϺ that sets it apart?

One of the key strengths of the marketing department is the sense of community. I love marketing because it combines psychology and creativity—skills that are essential in every area of life. Whether it’s marketing a business or yourself, it’s always relevant. 51ԹϺ has truly been my safe space to grow, express myself, and step outside of my comfort zone. I’m so grateful for the experiences and connections I’ve made here.
